Packing for a villa holiday is a little different from packing for a hotel. You have more space, your own kitchen and a private outdoor area, which means a few thoughtful additions can make the stay far more comfortable. Here is our tried and tested list of things worth squeezing into the case.

For the Kitchen

• A decent kettle is not always provided, so a small travel kettle keeps tea lovers happy.
• A few favourite spices and a good olive oil if you plan to cook often.
• Reusable shopping bags for trips to the local market.

For the Pool and Terrace

Most villas supply sun loungers but rarely much else. Pack a couple of good books, a portable speaker for gentle background music and plenty of high-factor sun cream. An inflatable for the pool keeps younger guests entertained for hours.

The Practical Extras

A European travel adaptor is essential, and a spare is always handy. A basic first aid kit, insect repellent and a torch for finding your way around an unfamiliar garden after dark all earn their place. If your villa is rural, a paper map can be reassuring when the phone signal fades.

Finally, leave a little room in the case. Majorca’s markets and delicatessens are full of tempting produce, and you will almost certainly want to bring a taste of the island home with you.
