July and August are Majorca’s busiest months, but anyone with the flexibility to travel in spring or autumn often finds the island at its best. For villa holidays in particular, the shoulder season has real advantages.
Weather that rewards exploring
In May, June, September and October, daytime temperatures are warm enough for swimming but gentle enough for activity. The fierce midsummer heat that drives people to the pool by noon is absent, which makes walking in the Tramuntana, cycling the back roads or wandering old towns genuinely enjoyable rather than exhausting. A villa with a heated pool extends the comfortable swimming window even further into these months.
A calmer, better-value island
The practical benefits add up quickly.
- Lower rental prices than the peak weeks of July and August
- Quieter beaches, roads and restaurants without the August crush
- Easier last-minute restaurant tables and parking near popular sights
- More availability, so you can be choosier about the villa itself
Things to keep in mind
The trade-offs are minor but worth noting. Sea temperatures are coolest in spring, warming up nicely by autumn after a summer of sunshine, so September often gives the best swimming of the shoulder months. Some smaller resort businesses open later and close earlier in the season, though the main towns stay lively year-round.
If your dates are tied to school holidays this may not be an option, but for couples, remote workers and anyone with flexibility, travelling on either side of high summer means a more relaxed, more affordable and arguably more authentic experience of the island. The villa you wanted is likelier to be free, and you get to enjoy it without the crowds.
